His picture was on the front page of Newsday on 9/12. Richie had moved down south for the warmer climate. He was a great guy. He would give you the shirt off his back. He was a great firefighter and he loved "the job". He will be missed by all who knew him.

This has been a very sad time for many families as we approach this Christmas Day (2014). For many, they feel the loss of their "loved ones" who have dedicated their lives to saving others. Sad for many families, friends and members of the FDNY, as well as members of the NYPD.

Since December 21st, just three days, we have lost Four FDNY Members who served during the very busy War Years.
      1 Captain
      2 LTs.
      1 Firefighter

In addition, the world watches as the families, friends, and members of the NYPD prepare to lay two New York City Police Officers to rest after they were gunned down as they sat in their patrol car.

A Police Officer from Florida is also a LODD and his family and friends, as well as members of the police department, will bear the sadness this holiday season.

The Fire Service also learns of the LODD of a Volunteer Firefighter from Long Island.

During this Holiday Season we need to remember every one of these individuals and the families and friends of these Hero's. They have served us well. Thank You and may they Rest in Peace.

RET FDNY BC JOHN KELLY #7....REST IN PEACE BROTHER....PRAYERS FOR THE COMFORT OF THE FAMILIES.....THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DID..........post from another site....QUOTE...I was just informed by his family that Ret. BC Jack Kelly B-8 and SOC, passed away this morning after a long illness. Jack started his career in L-110, and was a Lt. in L-2, and the Captain of L-114. John was also a long time member of the FDNY Pipes and Drums joining in 1964 and serving to the present. He served many Board positions in the Band through the years, and was one of the main reasons for the Band's continued success. Jack has been sick for many years due to various illnesses, but never complained and still continued his activity with the Band till just recently. I have been very close to Jack through the years as he was the one who talked me into joining the Band. In seeing what he has gone through since his retirement and how he handled it, I would have to say he was one of the strongest and bravest people I have ever met. God Bless and RIP.

JimmyPipes

I will post the particulars, when they are formulated.......UNQUOTE.

Heartfelt condolences to the family of the Chief.

This is a storied name in the FDNY.

His predecessor with the same handle was also a renowned officer. Battalion Chief John J. Kelly #7 retired in 1970 as commander of Battalion 14 after 35 years of service. He previously commanded H&L 5, served as a lieutenant in Rescue 3 and on Staten Island, and as a fireman in H&L 5 when it was a double company on Charles St in the Village. Known as "All Hands Kelly", he was revered and beloved by his men in the South Bronx and Harlem during the worst of the War Years of the 60's. A graduate of Regis HS during the Great Depression. Passed away in the early 1980's.

When asked if a colleague was a good fireman he was surprised at the question, replying simply and emphatically, "We were all good".

And so they were.

May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed Rest in Peace.
