Five FDNY members of the FDNY War Years have passed on in just Four days.
For those who never got the chance to see these firefighters operate and what they had to cope with, I can tell you this, "THEY really were the GREATEST GENERATION of FIREFIGHTERS". They handled fires with 2/2 that today would easily be a Second Alarm on arrival. Some didn't have portable radios at the time. Some didn't have airpacks. Yet they threw themselves into danger several times in just one shift.
Only the other War Years Firefighters they worked with really know what those that have passed on did for their job.
May they ALL Rest in Peace. And Thank you for their service to the people of the City of New York. A time that can really only be appreciated by those who worked with them, those who needed them, and those who watched them.
