DEATH OF RETIRED FIRE MEMBER FF ROBERT J. THOMSON Rescue 4....born 1927.....RET 1977.

Robert Thomson started out in Engine 36 when they were on Park Avenue

His son Robert was appointed to L-4. Bobby (the Son) later transferred to L-126 before being promoted to Fire Marshall. He retired a supervising FM some time after 9/11.

One of his sons (grandson of the deceased), Michael Thomson was appointed to Ladder 43. He is now a covering Captain in D-15. Mike has 2 other brothers in the FDNY.

i worked for 8 years or so with Mike...he transferred to us from 68 Engine and paid his dues down there.  The man was a bull at a fire....you could not drag him inside out of the rain (open tower ladder) and he hated garlic.  RIP Mike
 
Five FDNY members of the FDNY War Years have passed on in just Four days.

For those who never got the chance to see these firefighters operate and what they had to cope with, I can tell you this, "THEY really were the GREATEST GENERATION of FIREFIGHTERS". They handled fires with 2/2 that today would easily be a Second Alarm on arrival. Some didn't have portable radios at the time. Some didn't have airpacks. Yet they threw themselves into danger several times in just one shift.

  Only the other War Years Firefighters they worked with really know what those that have passed on did for their job.

  May they ALL Rest in Peace. And Thank you for their service to the people of the City of New York. A time that can really only be appreciated by those who worked with them, those who needed them, and those who watched them.

RET FDNY FF CARMINE "BUDDY" CROCE...War Years FF LAD*31 & R*3....No further details yet....Buddy was pictured in Jill Freedman's book "Firehouse" ......he was in my Chauf class in March '72 & years later suffered a career ending injury when a connection blew of a TL siamese breaking his leg....he was living in North Carolina. ........REST IN PEACE BROTHER......PRAYERS FOR THE COMFORT OF THE FAMILIES......
