Chief JK, referring back to reply # 1545 wasn't Howard Wanser also a well known FDNY name from that era?

Howie Wanser (Appt 1/7/46) was Dick Hamilton's mentor when he transferred to Rescue 3 from 17 Truck in the fall of 1953. The Rescue Captain was Tom Phelan who was a Lieutenant there in 1947. By the way, Hamilton got his first medal on 2/21/54 while detailed to drive the ABC of the 14, the Captain of Ladder17 Joseph E. Contrastano (Appt 8/1/38). Contrastano was a firemen in Rescue 3 in 1947. Didn't he subsequently make Assistant Chief?

20,000 Alarms must have been where I recognized the name from. Thank you entropychaser.

I do believe he did although I'm not certain of the year.
