^^^^^^ 1947 the Father....1970 the Son....there was also an Uncle.....also note in the 1970 Roster you see FF Carmine Croce...."Buddy" Croce the Son ( who also had a Father & Uncle in R*3) came to R*3 from LAD*31 along with Tom Kennedy also on the 1970 Roster above....(Buddy & Tom both went back to 31).....Buddy was in my LAD Chauf. School class in March 1972.....Buddy after going back to 31 was driving the TL when the side siamese blew off badly damaging his knee putting him out of the Job....after that incident the shops placed a steel strap from the running board up to the side step above the siamese.

Chief JK, referring back to reply # 1545 wasn't Howard Wanser also a well known FDNY name from that era?

Howie Wanser (Appt 1/7/46) was Dick Hamilton's mentor when he transferred to Rescue 3 from 17 Truck in the fall of 1953. The Rescue Captain was Tom Phelan who was a Lieutenant there in 1947. By the way, Hamilton got his first medal on 2/21/54 while detailed to drive the ABC of the 14, the Captain of Ladder17 Joseph E. Contrastano (Appt 8/1/38). Contrastano was a firemen in Rescue 3 in 1947. Didn't he subsequently make Assistant Chief?

I do believe he did although I'm not certain of the year.
