ANOTHER WAR YEARS VET PASSES.

Chief Contrastano wrote excellent informative articles on collapse for WNYF, I believe around 1960.
For years (decades?) they were the only Department material on collapse.

Any of the senior men remember a Richard Joline spent most of his career in 14 Truck. Retired in 99. Just getting word from a friend (who dates his grand daughter) of his passing

^^^^^Additional info on RET FF Touhy Thanks to poster 211231 on another site........
Upon doing some research I found that Matt was appointed in October of 1959 and started out in Engine 235. I don't know if he went anywhere in between, but he also worked in Squad 9 (in the quarters of E-22/L-13/B-10).
He went to the Bronx when Squad 9 became Engine 85, and apparently stayed there until it was disbanded to become Ladder 53 where he retired in early 1993.
Rest in peace, Brother.

BC CARLO ANDERSEN

Carlo A. Andersen, 95

Proud F.D.N.Y. member; great-grandfather

Carlo Anthony Andersen, 95, passed away peacefully on Nov 25, 2020, surrounded by his children.

He was born to Carlo and Mary Andersen on Sept. 18, 1925, and was raised in the Bronx. In 1950, he married the love of his life, Gertrude Clifford. After briefly living in the Bronx, N.Y., they settled in Dongan Hills, where they raised five children. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, serving during World War II. After briefly working for the N.Y. Telephone Co., Carlo became a proud member of the FDNY, were he spent 36 dedicated and successful years.

In 1961, he was presented with the Vincent J. Kane Medal for his bravery. He continued to climb the ranks and retired as the first Safety Battalion Chief in July 1987. He served as the president of the FDNY Retirees and was the treasurer of the Huttner Pasqualini Post. He dedicated himself to local organizations for the disabled and was an Eger Home volunteer. He was a communicant of St Ann's Church. Carlo had a love for life and was willing to lend a helping hand to all. He was a passionate storyteller captivating audiences young and old wherever he went.
