ANOTHER WAR YEARS VET PASSES.

Richard Hassan. AKA "The Best". FF Fort Pitt from 1/7/1961 to 6/29/1985. He became a fire Marshal in 1985 and retired in 1995. He passed away on Thursday October 14th 2021. Also a US Army veteran.

Obituary​

Richard Hassan ,nicknamed “The Best” by FDNY, from Chester NY, passed away comfortably and peacefully, on October 14th 2021, at Valley View Center for Nursing Care.

He was 86 years old.

Richie was born and raised in the lower east side of Manhattan, and was the son of the late Hadah and Hake Hassan, and brother to the late Sara, Fay, Mary, Johnny, Rosie, Sam and Francis. He is survived by his brother David Hassan, of Long Island, NY.

He was appointed to the FDNY on 1/7/1961 and promoted to Fire Marshal on 6/29/1985. He retired after 34 years of service. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving from 1953 – 1955.

Richie was a loving father to Kathleen Capobianco, Susan Cannock and son-in-law George. He was an amazing grandfather to Calista and Jenna Cannock, and brother-in-law to Vicky Hassan, Tina Augello, and Maryann and James Cascio. He leaves many great memories to his nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Richie had many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews, who were not blood related, but related by love and friendship, especially those in the FDNY.

Richie was a happy silly wise guy who always made everyone laugh. He was at his happiest with his granddaughters and his grand pups. Richie had a passionate love affair with ice cream, rice pudding and anything dipped in chocolate. He was a very proud member of the FDNY and all of his achievements. Richie would do anything for his friends and family. He was always the “go to” guy if anyone needed a helping hand or something fixed. He was a generous giving caring fun loving person and will be truly missed.

Visitation and celebration of life will be held on October 24th 2pm – 7pm at the Sugar Loaf Performing Art Center,1351 Kings Highway, Chester, NY 10918

On 11-3-21 Don Passed To A Higher Level after a hard fought battle....an Excellent FF....LCC...FD Historian ....Author ....& Webmaster of a Great History Site nyfd.com/index2.html .....Mechanic.....Carpenter....Yachtsman (Don fully restored a WW2 PT Boat that he later sold & it is a floating Restaurant ) all around Craftsman .....& Friend .....US Army Airborne Combat Veteran. (Dom Rep Conflict)......Don started as a War Years FF in 103 on Sheffield Ave among some of The Great's.....after the layoff's / supposed fiscal crisis manpower was reduced from 31 + to 25 in Busy Units & FFs were shifted around to fill openings.....I remember the day Don pulled up to Union Ave in his Chevy Pickup with his entire locker from 103 standing in the Bed ( I later bought his Pickup which he had highly modified) ...he fit right in & spent some good years making his mark in 108...... always upbeat & always had a solution......REST IN PEACE BROTHER......THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE BOTH MILITARY (US ARMY AIRBORNE) & FDNY.....PRAYERS FOR THE COMFORT OF THE FAMILIES.....further info on arrangements when available...... Chief, I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your good friend and Brother Firefighter Don Van Holt.

I know he was highly respected among many.

I recd this message concerning Don's Services..... "The family held a private funeral service earlier this week and Don was buried at the Calverton National Cemetery."......The Family Thanks All who kept in contact with Don & brightened his days.

On 11-11-21 in QNS NY at 77 yrs of age....Appt 1969.....Norman was also a long time Bayside Bartender for almost 20 yrs starting in the old "Farrells" then later "Maggie Mays" where up until a few yrs ago he was "THE" Monday night Bartender ......Norm was a Friend to many who ran a good shop "behind the stick" & will be missed......REST IN PEACE BROTHER......THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE BOTH MILITARY (US ARMY) & FDNY.....PRAYERS FOR THE COMFORT OF THE FAMILIES.....Arrangements ........
