Obituary

Richard Hassan ,nicknamed “The Best” by FDNY, from Chester NY, passed away comfortably and peacefully, on October 14th 2021, at Valley View Center for Nursing Care.

He was 86 years old.

Richie was born and raised in the lower east side of Manhattan, and was the son of the late Hadah and Hake Hassan, and brother to the late Sara, Fay, Mary, Johnny, Rosie, Sam and Francis. He is survived by his brother David Hassan, of Long Island, NY.

He was appointed to the FDNY on 1/7/1961 and promoted to Fire Marshal on 6/29/1985. He retired after 34 years of service. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving from 1953 – 1955.

Richie was a loving father to Kathleen Capobianco, Susan Cannock and son-in-law George. He was an amazing grandfather to Calista and Jenna Cannock, and brother-in-law to Vicky Hassan, Tina Augello, and Maryann and James Cascio. He leaves many great memories to his nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Richie had many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews, who were not blood related, but related by love and friendship, especially those in the FDNY.

Richie was a happy silly wise guy who always made everyone laugh. He was at his happiest with his granddaughters and his grand pups. Richie had a passionate love affair with ice cream, rice pudding and anything dipped in chocolate. He was a very proud member of the FDNY and all of his achievements. Richie would do anything for his friends and family. He was always the “go to” guy if anyone needed a helping hand or something fixed. He was a generous giving caring fun loving person and will be truly missed.
