On 1/4/25. Appt to and retired Engine 277 from 1968 through 1995.
Resided in West Columbia SC.
So sorry to hear about Stan, he was my chauffeur in 277. He was a really talented guy, could fix almost anything. When he was out with a bad heart, I went to his house to shovel snow, that’s the least I could do to give back to him. Every firehouse needs people like Stan.

Bobby, You were one hell of a firefighter & a great friend. You will be missed but I have a lot of memories from those forgotten years. God please bless his family.

Recd this email... "FDNY Suncoast Florida Retirees announces the death of retired Lieutenant Don O’Leary.
Don worked in E-243, L-54 and L-151 before retiring in 1989 after a 30-year career.
After retirement Don moved to Florida and became very involved in his community of Lakewood Ranch.
Among his passions was lobbying for the expansion of the East Manatee Fire Department. Don was very successful in this endeavor and became a Commissioner from 2011 to 2019. In 2021 a newly built fire station was dedicated in his name.

His funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 26th at the Don O’Leary fire station, 6975 Bourneside Blvd. in Lakewood Ranch. Details are below.
Members attending should wear either Class “A” uniforms or the FDNY Suncoast Florida Retirees uniform.

Funeral details from Chief Lee Whitehurst, Chief of the East County Fire District

“Former Commissioner Don O’Leary‘s funeral service will be held at East Manatee Fire Rescue Station 8 located at 6975 Bourneside Blvd. in Lakewood Ranch on Sunday, January 26. Family will arrive around 9 AM and general visitation will be from 10 AM until noon. The funeral service will begin at noon with a repass to follow around 1 PM. There will not be a procession and the internment service will be held for the family later that day in Sarasota. Please let all of your FDNY brothers in town know about it. This will be a level three service for “retired (FDNY) or affiliated members (EMFR)”. Other than having a Catholic service at “his” fire station with uniformed personnel in attendance.”
