Anyone remember James B. McCormack?

My name is Michelle Gallina and James B. McCormack was my grandfather and a NYC firefighter at engine 34/ladder21 in Hells Kitchen from 1959-1973. He was transported to a NYC hospital for smoke inhalation after a fire in Aug of 1973. He was discharged and sent home to NJ. He had a heart attack, was worked in the field but was later pronounced dead at Middlesex Hospital in NJ. I'm looking for any information or pictures of him.

My husband just recently passed away from occupational esophageal cancer. He was a 20+ year veteran of the Virginia Beach Fire Department. The fire department is very special to me and I was hoping I could connect with someone that would possibly have old pictures of my grandfather to show my children. My mom doesn't have many pictures because of a flood that destroyed a lot of sentimental items in their basement in NJ. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Your Grandfather is still remembered by the members of Engine 34 & Tower Ladder 21. A plague is displayed on the apparatus floor wall. I was a Lieutenant in Tower Ladder 21 from 1986 till I was promoted to Captain in 1991. We all in the fire service reach out to you in love for your grandfather and your husband as brother firefighters. I now still work for the FDNY as a Peer Counselor for the FDNY Counseling Service Unit. Always remember were are here for you. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired

Captain Rainey! Thank you so much...My children and I were just in NY for Game 4 of the World Series and to spread Matt's (my husband's) ashes. I'm sure we will make another trip soon and we'll have to stop by the station to take pictures. My Matt developed cancer from occupational exposure and I'm on a mission to increase firefighter cancer awareness and to encourage early detection/treatment!! The Virginia Beach fire department used a simple blood screen to detect 50+ cancers called the Galleri test. That's how my Matt was diagnosed! He was asymptomatic at the time. All firefighters are special people! They risk and sacrifice not only their lives but memories with their families to protect their communities... I am planning to change cancer screening for you all.
