^^^^^ Thank You Hank... that was our brand new 1982 ALF w/ a Saulsbury Body ....it was built on a Cab / Chassis ( single rear axle ) that was often used for Sanitation Trucks in other Cities....it had a great turning radius & was good in Snow.... I just personally liked the older Mack Rescue's having the motor out in front of you while responding.....the picture is of it w/the manufacturers Bulldog R*2 logo & Lettering which not too long after we got it they were removed w/oven cleaner & re logo'd / lettered to our designs by our good friend Dave Smith Grand Rapids Mich FF. & Sign business owner who did high quality artwork on high dollar Competition Cigarette Speed Boats & Stock Cars on the Professional Racing Circuit.......(plus 2 scaling Ladders we added on the Roof) ..... the linked photo https://www.firereplicas.com/fdny-1982-alf-ctc-saulsbury-rescue-2-in-1988-brooklyn/. is of a Model but shows Daves great art work

^^^^ Above photo is the 1976 MACK the first Rig I drove in R*2....the Patch on the door was our original designed by FF Jon Thomas RIP a Vietnam Green Beret....Jon also hand painted the Patch on the Doors....the cast metal R*2 on the grill was something I put on after we got them from a an abandoned BKLYN Movie theater we later had a set on the back also.

The Rescue was always impressive at a job. I would see them operating often when I rode with 132 (1968 to 1975). Sometimes they would respond to a job we were operating at or 132 responding into a job they were already at. I was fortunate to be riding the night of October 16, 1970 when Lieutenant Hamilton and Fireman Polera of Rescue 2 rescued Lieutenant Geragthy and Fireman Orokos from the cellar on Adelphi Street. That was quite a feat. Rescue 2……always top notch.

The ALF CTC (Commercial Truck Chassis) introduced circa 1981, designed for refuse trucks, available in single and tandem axle versions. Very few were made into fire apparatus- about 6, with the FDNY having the most of that number.

Way back in the summer of 1968, my brother and I got our first introduction to the FDNY.
I was I think 18 and my brother 13.

We were invited down there by a now retired member nicknamed "TAD".
I met "TAD" when I was working at a neighborhood drug store
We got talking and with his Brooklyn accent, I said to him - "you sound like you're from New York City".
He said yes and I told him how I wanted to be a firefighter, maybe in NYC.
That's when he told me he was a NYC Firefighter in Engine Co 210.
He said we have the Rescue Company with him in the same quarters.
He gave me his phone number and he invited me down for the day.

I met Lt Richard Hamilton who was one of the most decorated members in the department.
Lt Hamilton told me I should come down on a Saturday night and to to bring my 13 year old brother down.
So that's what I did and we were both hooked after that.

When Lt Hamilton retired, he wrote a book called "20,000 Alarms" which he talked about his years with the FDNY.
I don't think that book is available anymore.

Chief, we’re you at the job in January 1985 at the massive fire on Hall street over by the Navy yard?
