Contract for new Pumpers

Rumor has it that Seagrave will be we getting the contract for 69 new Pumpers. 
This will be an interesting order to watch as the new pumpers will all be 2000gpm.
 
I hope they dump the Ferrara highrise rigs.  They're built for firemen who are 5'3". 

When I asked the Ferrara guy all he said was "We just build them following your specs".  The sign of a poor contractor is to build something you know is a bad design.  But that's another thread.

Who is in charge of spec'ing rigs for the job, anyway?  Is it a fireman or a civilian?  Has this person(s) ever ridden in a rig?  With gear on?  Tried to put a mask on while riding?

Lack of common sense is never in short supply.

It's a real pain to build for FDNY.  Due to the size of the old houses the rigs have to stay below normal size.  Also this year you have the new EPA stuff which is changing the layout of the rigs as well..
 
I heard a rumor that the specs for the bids on new tower ladders was open to ture "tower ladders" and not just the closed boom Baker style tower ladders. Anybody know of any truth to this rumor?
 
Not sure what is going on with new Contracts, but last rumor on the current order of Tower Ladders.
It seems there are 9 new Tower Ladders ready to go in service, but due to a problem with a part of the boom, the city doesn't want to take them.  They are reportedly requesting seagrave redesign the part which is in question..

Seagrave Fire Apparatus (SFA) employees from the engineering, manufacturing, sales and service departments, including CEO, Scott Mintier made up a 9-man team, which assembled in New York City this week with members of FDNY Management & Apparatus Committee and The Department of Citywide Administrative Service (DCAS) to kick-off preconstruction meetings on the recently awarded 69 Pumper order. 

FDNY is making the move to a "Split-Tilt" cab, so a new Marauder II Pumper was on site to be examined.  SFA will be specifically designing and incorporating some unique features to the existing all-stainless steel Marauder II to meet the department?s requirements.  A prototype unit is scheduled to be delivered before the end of the year.
 
After spending more than 25 years working in FDNY Tower Ladders and also have used Ladder Towers in the Volunteer fire service. I firmly believe that solid boom Tower Ladders like the FDNY "Baker" booms are inherently stronger and safer. In open truss Ladder Tower designs the truss design is perhaps prone to deuteriations due to read salt and other environmental factors attacking the truss connections. The solid Baker booms made traditionally with Cordone steel is more resistant to the environments we content with on the streets every day. I am an old firefighter but I still think the old Mack Towers Ladders with the solid Backer boom were top of the line and proved their durability and safety during thousands of fires in the FDNY war years.
