Mack, thank you on behalf of many for your passion to preserve and share much of the history of FDNY and its various members and units. Your passion, dedication and countless hours devoted to research and content preparation for this is obvious and very much appreciated. Stay well

Wow ! There’s an iconic piece of history. I remember that well. One of the more creative apparatus logos of the time. Thanks for posting

Anyone know the story behind it
Hypothetically, the 44 was constantly running and the aide(s) could never get the fire reports typed up. Maybe this signifies that they installed a typewriter in the rig so they could type in between "progress reports." I don't really know but that's just a wild guess. I'm sure that someone here really knows.

I can tell you the name of the artist who painted the picture on the 44...It is George Guinan L120. George was our house ARTIST. He would paint anything any where. From the company logos on the rigs to the boom on the tower..even the heat shield on the bucket. (the superman S and the horns). I asked him why the heat shield? He replied" now everyone will know that is us"And Yes they did! MY favorite painting was the one on the 3rd floor. It was a scene of a 10-75 in a brick OLT. From the ovm taking windows.. roofman cutting the roof.. FE team taking the door..Etc all on the wooden door of his locker. And Yes Memory M..I believe it was of the aides Billy ( Ratso) That said he wished he had the typewriter in the rig... Hence Wishes do come true.....
