Wasn't sure where to post this. Was 277/112 old firehouse on the same property that the current firehouse is on? Did they stack the apparatus in the old house? I believe it was a single door, but a deep firehouse.

Yes, the old house was at the same location and 277/112 were stacked. It was a deep house. If 112 was parked behind 277 and got a run, the MPO of 277 had to move the rig and vice-versa

Common practice back in the past to stack engine & truck, engine & rescue, or engine & squad. Some I remember were: E210/R2, E65/R1, E73/Sq2, E41/Sq5, E23/L4*, E68/L49, E244/L161*, and many of the double engine companies.

Also in the past 283/SQ*4....235/SQ*3 then 230/SQ*3...259/Field Comm*2...plus a few BNs IFO their ENGs....a problematic situation at times......what was done a few years ago w/259/128/BN*45 was an excellent solution to their piggybacking 259/BN*45 by redoing the front of the FH (but this was a double door originally then made 3 doors)....we wanted the same thing done to the 136/287/46 FH when they did a rehab but they said they could not alter the face of the bldg for "historical" reasons which was BS because it was the same FH front as 259/128/45 where they did do it.

Engine 266's quarters used to have 266 & 267 side by side behind the 47 Batt. with 121 Truck in the other bay.

58&26 w/one large door had 58..26-1 & 26-2 side by side & for awhile BN*12-2 & after that BN*25 stuck in there also......Sheffield Av had 2 doors but had 290...103-1 & 103-2 side by side & every 3rd night SQ*4 piggybacked w/290.

231, 120 & the 44 had 232 in between the engine and the truck (last time I visited the house, 2002, there was still a designated space for 232. And before that Sq 4 operated out of Watkins Street before moving in with 283. Also the 44-2 was there for a while.

This photo shows Intervale Ave looking north from E. 169 St taken in 1942 by Percy Loomis Sperr. On the left you can see the quarters of E82/L31 and the neighborhood before the arson and blight of the 60's and 70's.

This is what it looks like today.

Thank you "fdce54" as well. Great comparisons of "then and now". That street and the firehouse on it made National News during the arson of the FDNY War Years. As we know, the book "Report from Engine Co 82" was written based on the members of that firehouse and the surrounding firehouses. Two presidents visited the area as well and it made national headlines. All because there were so many fires there and that street didn't look like that picture anymore.

If I remember the building in the center of that old picture was a public school. It was on Intervale Ave and Chisolm St (spelling ?). I think there was an arson fire in that school and one of the guys from Ladder 31 had gotten hurt pretty bad. I think I remember reading about it in the newspaper. Maybe some of the guys remember it.

We know today, about the only thing that looks the same in that old picture is the firehouse that was once referred to as "LaCasa Granda".

Chief I don't think that is 26-58 old firehouse.The House I remember had three bays,looking at the front 58 was in the right bay,26 was in the center bay,and Water Tower was in the left bay. The Firehouse was on E.114 St between Madison and Park. I remember the running board for E58 as they had 1st due Boxes and the truck wasn't assigned because of all the single units around them except for 91-43, I'm thinking 1954 or '55 was the first time I was there.

OK we need some more clarification on this...i know ENG*58s old single FH is still around & i thought before 58 moved in w/LAD*26 (as in the 1951"Fire In The City" video) that the earlier 2 Sections of 26 were in the FH...yes also at some point there was a Water Tower w/26...but i don't remember a 3 bay FH other than 91/43 on 111 St bet 2 & 3 Aves which had a Reserve Ladder & DV*4 there also........the other 3 bay FH in Manhattan was/is on 181 St w/ENG*93/LAD*45/BN*13 .....anybody have any ideas on the FH photo ?
