As a runner for Power Memorial Academy in the 1960's, we used to practice on the track at 72d St and the Hudson River. To get there we would jog up 10th (Amsterdam Ave) past E40/35.

I remember the Autumn of 1961, when 40/35 occupied an old wood frame building adjacent to where their new quarters were under construction. It was probably an old stable, converted to a garage or warehouse, prior to the City renting it for temporary use as a firehouse. It was needed because 40/35's house (originally home to just the two sections of L35) was demolished in 1961 to make way for Lincoln Center and the new quarters were not yet complete.

Any body else remember that temporary house or, better still, any pictures of it out there?

Engine 251 (Brooklyn) - former firehouse - 47/48 Washington Avenue - originally firehouse for Bklyn Fire Dept Engine 51 from 1897-1989 - firehouse for FDNY Engine 51, then 151, then 251 from 1898-1941 - company moved to Engine 211 firehouse at 16 Clymer St to enable expansion of Bklyn Navy Yard for World War II - company then moved to new firehouse with Engine 211 at 26 Hooper St - company disbanded in 1946 - Queens Engine 251 organized in 1952

I knew a few guys that worked in 211 on Hooper street. They said that the building was a former commercial laundry or city hospital laundry prior to being a firehouse.

I believe L 105 was on Pacific Street, at least that is the location I remember.  They were on Pacific just off Flatbush Avenue.  They moved in with E 219 when the "new" house was built on Dean Street.

Yes, Pacific Street right by the LIRR tracks. The firehouse could be seen from Atlantic Avenue, just east of Flatbush Ave.

  L21 was a double company in the 1930's so their new house on W. 38th Street was built with a wide door to accomodate two ladder trucks. Their second section was eventually disbanded in 1939. That wide bay came in handy after Rescue 1's firehouse was destroyed by fire and they were temporarily housed with 34/21 while it was rebuilt.

  I was told by a retired L-10 member that when Ladder 10's Fulton St. firehouse was demolished for WTC construction they were temporarily housed in a leased building @117 Liberty St. which was 2 doors away from E6 @113 Liberty St. What made this strange was that the building between the two firehouses at 115 Liberty St. had a bar and there was a chance that whenever someone from one house went to the other they might make a stop at the bar.  ;D
