While Staten Island has some large pockets of wooded areas still l, most major brush fires were concentrated in the Gateway Park area off hylan blvd. Many other areas have been developed.

When they shut down good portion of the park due to hazardous materials they closed the ball fields and the model airplane area. Fires ended almost immediately.
Also finally allowed large swathes of the cattails to be cut down which the environmentalists always fought. Can get rid of massive fire load before it burns and threatens houses in area.
They have a model airplane field over in park by Costco on Richmond Ave. been a few fires over there that I don’t doubt we’re caused by them. Dry brush, hot engines and fuel. But now you have ball fields and trails there so people come. And fires happen. Caused by someone accidentally or purposely
