FDNY assistance to Canada

Looks to me like “single resource” guys went up there. Not an entire team. Guys who have real world experience in ordering and management of supplies for the base camps. Guys like that names are in the system and are in demand. They get selected by one of the operations centers.
Their post says team memberS so 🤷🏻‍♂️ Logistics is definitely part of that team.

FDNY BFUs = Brush Fire Units are specifically maned on a detail or overtime basis during certain times = Brush Fire Season. Commonly in early Spring and at times in later Fall. But droughts can make the time of year less important than the actual need. At all times the FDNY units assigned have the BFU ready to go in quarters and the Engine Company and the BFU can respond by utilizing the firefighters already on duty. I have seen F.D.N.Y. B.F.U.s used for brand/spark/ember patrol at major fires. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired

Like most large forest fires they go out when weather turns in their favor like high humidity, rain or wind shifts or there’s nothing left to burn.

While Staten Island has some large pockets of wooded areas still l, most major brush fires were concentrated in the Gateway Park area off hylan blvd. Many other areas have been developed.
Dry cat tails, dry weather and firebugs did the trick.
When they shut down good portion of the park due to hazardous materials they closed the ball fields and the model airplane area. Fires ended almost immediately.
Also finally allowed large swathes of the cattails to be cut down which the environmentalists always fought. Can get rid of massive fire load before it burns and threatens houses in area.

They have a model airplane field over in park by Costco on Richmond Ave. been a few fires over there that I don’t doubt we’re caused by them. Dry brush, hot engines and fuel. But now you have ball fields and trails there so people come. And fires happen. Caused by someone accidentally or purposely

Let us remember that "Gateway National Seashore" is found in Southern Brooklyn, Near the "Belt Parkway" and also in was once called the "RUT" the area of bay between Mill Basin/Carnsee Brooklyn and the Rockaway Peninsular/Howard Beach, Queens. Years ago, many "Summer cottages" were built in Pilings out on the small islands in the Jamacia Bay. Kennedy Airport also has very large areas that have the same type of land. YFDNY Fireboat Blaze.jpgears ago E-329 near Jacob Reis Beach/Fort Tilden was assigned a small, trailered fireboat call the "Blaze" to help deal with this area. This is a very large area, allot that is filled with also a of the Cattails and other shore/marsh area heavy vegetation. At one time the National Park Service hired off duty and retired FDNY members to work in the National Seashore including some Brush Fire firefighting. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired
