FDNY EMS Units - 3/17/2025

No clue what the "FD#X" and "FD##" are used for, nobody I asked was able to figure it out

All of the PRUs are the same no matter the letter EXCEPT the X units. X10 is a Rescue Paramedic PRU. X08, X18, X32, X22 & X45 are all backup designations for the various XR Units if they are short a rescue medic.

MM are the "BHEARD" Units

The AR units are Atom Response units which are essentially BLS Flycars. AR4 for example is placed at JFK Airport and AR31 is in canarise.
Legend Nik thank you!

What is a "BHEARD" Unit?

Hi guys, I was looking back at the sheet on the 1st post on here, trying for some information on something,

Does anyone know:
What/When FD7A/B/C/D/E - BLS (Division 7 "Spare Designation") is used for?
What/When FD07 - SUPR (Division 7 "Spare Designation") is used for?
What the difference in a P##, R##, X## and Z## PRU is, and what each is used for?
What MM1-9 - ALS (Divisions 3 & 8) is used for?
What AR31/4/92 is used for?
Z## PRU are HazTac

The Behavioral Health Emergency Assistance Response Division which is (was?) the citys alternative police response to mental health crisis. Comprised 1 EMT and a Therapist from NYC Health+Hospitals.
Are they staffed 24/7?

Why are Paramedics not used in "BHEARD" Units? Under the right conditions, Medics can administer Psychoactive medications after consolidation under medical authority control. EMTs are great but will often be of little help in situations were the Behavioral crisis is serious. This procedure is not sound in many cases. In addition to the FDNY I worked as a Paramedic back in the early 1980's.

Patients experiences the symptoms which would need sedation are excluded from BHEARD responds and are handled by line units.
