During the period December 19, 1964 through February 5th, 1965, Ladder 1's tower ladder operated at 4 5th alarms, 8 4th alarms, 5 3rd alarms, and 1 2nd alarm. These were special calls in addition to their normal response work.

Early 80's E-One gave BFD a demo rear mount, first in the city. Rig went to L17 @ E7, E26 (squrt 2 peice). L-17 assigned on all second alarms, ran that rig to death during Boston's War Years. E-One got a substantial contract in 1984 for RM's death knoll for TDA's. BFD is now all RM, mostly E-One.

Yes prior to L-l17 all ladder companies were TDA. But they also ran two Sutphen Towers similiar to FDNY. One was Aerial Tower 1 which was quartered with Engine 3 in the South End section, Tower 2 was @ E-37, BFD's busiest house. These  units had a busy still district, but one was assigned to any "Working Fire" which would be a FDNY 10-75. Nowadays BFD runs 3 Tower Ladders which are Pierce apparatus. TL3 @ E-10, TL 17 @ E-7, TL10 @ E28. Pierce mid-mounts.

Boston is currnetly running E-One, Pierce rear mounts. Two of the three towers are mid mounts L 17 is a rear mount it was a 95 footer till it was taken down Storrow Drive...It is now a 85 footer. BFD recently placed an order with KME for 3 rear mounts.

That Maxim mid-mount assigned to Ladder 31 is probably older than some members of this site. Originaaly assigned to  Middleboro, but I think someone owned the rig. Rig is in good condition,  they are first due to a installation that is far, far away from normal BFD. This institution is used for the most unfortunate, homeless.Guys that have been injured and  still want the job go there, it is a "pajama" house but you never know.  By the way I think Quincy is also first due.

The city is looking into replacing this aerial as well as the engine assigned on the Island with a small quint.

Yes Quincy is first due as well as first due to Moon Island the home of the Boston Fire and Police academies.

  44 got theirs in 1969 when they added TL's to the Bronx (44) & Queens (127). I believe the four '69 Mack C 'scopes went to TL 1, 14, 44, & 119 and 127 got 14's old 1966 Mack C.
