Thanks Manhattan.

You did some nice work getting these details together mack.  If I?m reading it correctly it looks like Division 3, Ladder 24, Squad 21, Searchlight 1 and Water Tower 3 should be added to ?firehouses with three-plus companies?.  I know that in the 1950?s and ?60?s that house (on 31st Street, opposite St. Francis) had Engine 1, Ladder 24, Ambulance 1 and Searchlight 21 as well as the Third Division.  In fact, after the latest renovations about six years ago they left the "Third Division" lettering above the door.

I don't believe that Engine 25 was in the same house with Ladder 11 even though on the same street.Anybody care to comment?

Engine 25's quarters were at 342 E. 5th St. near 1st Ave. Ladder 11's quarters were at 742 E. 5th St. near Ave. D. Both companies were organized in 1865 in former volunteer houses. Ladder 11 did relocate temporarily to Engine 25's quarters in 1883 while their own quarters was being rebuilt, but other than that, I don't know if the department ever planned to put both companies in a new house together.

Engine 25 was disbanded in 1947 and Ladder 11 remained in service. At one time, however, there was a plan to build a new house for both Engine 11 (quartered down on E. Houston St.) and Ladder 11. The plan never came to fruition and Engine 11 was disbanded in 1957. Two years later Engine 28 came down from 604 E. 11th St. and moved in with Ladder 11 at 222 E. 2nd St.

Was not WT-2 with L-3 rather than L-11?
In the (fabulous) Fifties WT*2 was w/LAD*3 & the lettering remains above the door today.

WhenENG*11 was disbanded they actually became ENG*91-2 for a short time then  91-2 was disbanded again until 1968.

I've said this before on another thread. The FH on East 2nd St. was supposed to house E11 & L11 according to the plans that were drawnup, however The builders that were doing the work on the projects needed to remove the FH on E.Houston St as soon as possible,so they were sent to E111St as the 2nd section of 91 as the Chief said. The move of 28 going in with L11 was a political move which I won't repeat again, as E11 could have doubled up with E15 a few blocks away.        :)
