From Gus Johnson's "FDNY The Fire Buff's Handbook" 66-33-67 " The fire extended from the eleventh to the fourteenth floor. Several maintenance men were rescued and about twenty-five firemen were overcome and injured".

Thirteen days earlier three fireman riding the back step of Squad 1 in the Bronx were hit by shotgun blast coming back from a job.

And, of course, fourteen days later, was the New York Telephone fire.
