Firefighters Locked Out

In a contract dispute, Boeing Corporation has locked out 130 IAFF local members at some factory facilities in Washington State.

Starting pay is $52,000/year and average pay is $91,000/year. They average 225 runs per month. The union states that wages are well below neighboring municipalities.

But, this has got to be the most boring job in the world. Everything indoors is sprinklered; fire extinguishers are everywhere. Citizens are healthy, sane, intelligent, and sober. Runs are for automatic alarms, standbys, or someone who cut their hand in a drill press. Can you imagine a running district with no freeways, vacant buildings, overflowing dumpsters, after-hours clubs, bad cooking, smoking in bed, or an overinsured, failing business?

Are the FF's still locked out or have them found temporary employment so they can still provide for there families?

Another insight I read elsewhere was that Boeing said they were paid less than surrounding departments because they ran significantly fewer calls. While this is true, the potential hazards they face are significant.

we don't get paid per call, if we did, members of west Bronx engine companies would be multi millionaires. We (they) are an insurance policy. When the shit hits the fan, you don't want cheap insurance. Look at the value of the property and assets that the Boeing Firefighters are paid to protect. Billions!
