The High Ladders were at 324 during the 64-65 Worlds' Fair. L139 was suggested for that house someday.

324's house was specifically built for the 1939 World's Fair if I have my facts correct.
E324 did not open until 1940.
E324-2 was proposed in 1938 to cover the World's Fair but did not happen.
E331, E331-2, E332, E333, and BC55 were organized on the fair grounds from 1938 to 1941.

Just a thought
With the boom happening in East Harlem and the expected 2nd ave subway, do you think FDNY would add a ladder company to Eng 91.
Ladder 43 moved in with Engine 53 and recently Eng 36 was disbanded.
Engine 91 is supposed To be renovated soon and I believe it was AC Sakowich that included in the plans room for an additional ladder company and a squad. If that has been changed by DDC or some other city agency since then I’m not sure. One thing is that the city had better come up with a better way for renovations of these city buildings.

A few years ago they wanted to put EMS in there, but that has since fell through. Right now, I'm unaware of any active plans.

91s Firehouse does seem to be a lot of wasted space. I rode from that house in the late '60s early '70s when they had three companies in quarters, E91, E91-2, , and L43. A three-bay house that was one of the busiest in the city back then. Last time I was there for a plaque dedication there was one lone engine and a RAC in the house. With the new Subway coming in it seems it all could be put to better use.

Here is the link that outlines the renovations, with no specifics other than multi-component upgrades.

Still no word on Rescue 1's proposed new house? Last I read in one of these posts was they had a site that wouldn't be available for 2 years. I think it has been past the 2 year mark already.

229/146 will be due for a new house in a few years, or atleast some extensive overhaul of the basement.

I was a fireman in, the Lower East Side, "Fort Pitt" Tower Ladder 18 in the 1970s & Early 1980s. In quarters with us at that time was Engine 17 and then as, now the 4th Battalion. Above the doors clearly marked was "Squad 5" Which Never was quartered on Pitt. St., and Squad 5, was closed in I think in 1975. Now Engine 17 was closed and now Engine 15 formerly in their own firehouse on Henry St. is now in Pitt St. along with TL-18 and Batt. 4. During the 1970s and early 1980s all these units were very busy, well of 6,000 alarms per year, and a lot of structural fires. One thing was for sure we often ran out of available units on the Lower East Side. A Squad would have been helpful. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26
I thought Squad 5 was indeed in service for a couple years in the late 60’s?

Maybe when 17/18/4 were in their original quarters on Broome and Suffolk?
