Flooding and truck clearance

I remember or don’t remember the directive that came out after Superstorm Sandy concerning driving through flooded streets. In the video L136 drives through a deep flooded street at 1:00 mark. Does anyone remember the the rules that were given about flooded street clearances for rigs?

I'm not sure about that tactic of having a ladder truck drive through deep standing water. The ladder truck has about 20" of clearance. However the FDNY does have 6 high axel trucks available for such emergencies.

Several years ago in Chicago an apparatus drove through a viaduct with standing water. It was a new rig with a low air intake for the engine. You can imagine the rest.

You never truly know what is under the water, an open manhole ad street cave in how do you know? If you are walking through water, use a Pike Pole or other tool ahead of you to "FEEL" for any hole hidden under the water. I once saw a firefighter walk down a flooded street and fall into a manhole whose "lid" was dialoged by the pressure of the water pushing up out of the manhole. thank God he was able to grab the rim of the manhole before he drown. I also saw of garbage truck fall into an undermined pavement hole that was covered by water from a large water main break, if it can happen to a garbage truck it can happen to a fire truck/s.
