2 questions actually
When was the last house opened ? No a relocated house, but a real new added firehouse and Company

Is the City landlocked , and cannot expand its geographic footprint?

E168 possibly? Think Squad 8 was last newly formed company but new company with new house together might be E168.

EMS Sta. 23 moved into the new building in Feb.2004 and E168 was formed and went into service in June of 2005. Squad 8's quarters are the former quarters of E154 which was disbanded, and Sq. 8 formed.

Newest unit - E168 (technically S8 existed before (1960-1966 in Manhattan) and so did E168 (1905-1913 in Queens) - 2005
Newest station - 1815 Sterling Pl- R2 - 2019
Newest EMS Station - 49 - 2022

Manhattan increased in area when fill from the World Trade Center created the Battery Park City area.

In 1966 when Lower MANH.s SQ*8 was disbanded they basically became BKLYN's LAD*174.....back then 174 was put in place to add LAD availability in the expanding Fire area stemming from Brownsville....years later up into today Fire Duty has extended to the East Flatbush area & 174 is right in the heart of it....I had some memorable Fires & Emergencies both while running in with 174 while I was a FF in R*2 & later as a LT Covering in 174 at times.

Not sure that the word "landlocked" is applicable to the City of New York. That term usually implies an area cut off from access to coastline by other municipalities or states. (See Mount Vernon, NY.)

NYC is comprised of 5 Boroughs (counties), 4 of them on islands. Only the Bronx is on the Mainland, USA, and even it is surrounded by water on 3 sides.

To your question, the City boundaries were set in the late 19th Century and could only be expanded by complicated legal procedures at the State of New York Legislature. Not likely. So in that sense NYC is "landlocked".

From 1929 to 1961, no new ladder companies were organized. In the 1960's, eight new ladders were established. In the Bronx, Ladders 54 and 55 received the next available numbers, and on Staten Island, Ladders 85 and 86 were next up.
In Brooklyn and Queens, the next up numbers began at 171, but five lower numbers had been skipped going back to 1929. Thus, the Snyder Ave firehouse, scheduled and once lettered for Ladder 160, instead received Ladder 174. It wasn't until 1984 that Ladder 160 was finally organized in Queens, having been scheduled in 1927 for 310 house. Ladders 139, 141 and 145 also have different units in their scheduled locations.

I remember a group of us, many members from this website, visiting that combined FDNY Fire/EMS Station.
Everybody treated us great there and the members of both FIRE and EMS seemed to get along very well together.

The last 5 years of my career before retiring were spent there. The best 5 years of them all. Great people, great times.

When E72 was established and their quarters built in Throggs Neck, the firehouse also was lettered “Ladder 57.” That truck company never came into existence.

Staten Island could use at least 2 more engines and trucks on the island.
Not many single houses have room would have to build else where

*This is for laughing purposes What if they put a Truck with E160 and build something across the street for R5 D8 and the rest of the toys lol*

L-79 Could be added on
E-158 has room possibly if you move the reserved rig

Anyone know what happen to the building at 65 Slosson Avenue. the 22 was temporary relocated there at one point. This its just used for communications. Still labeled as Staten Island Central Office. Don't think anything could be housed there.

E168 has the room and space from sleeping for a Truck & Chief….

E158 can fit the truck without the reserve.

E159 can fit a truck if you put the Sat behind the engine…

SQ8 has plenty of room…
