Never seen it used in the name of the department.Combined departments are those that have both volunteer and career members.
Rev. It has become common on department descriptions on websites and Facebook. It includes departments that are primarily career supplemented with volunteers as well as departments primarily volunteer with paid or carrer staff. Most combined departments have career department fire chiefs. Some don't. There are different leadership models. It appears that most combined departments are organized with career members assigned to department staff, leadership positions and all-career staffed companies. This is different than the old model of volunteer departments with paid drivers. Departments which are responsible for EMS also have many different career and volunteer arrangements.Never seen it used in the name of the department.
