TILLERS.......

L 169 received there new tiller yesterday
Ladder 59 is not on the new tillers list
L59 would make sense. There is currently only one tiller in the Bronx, way up north in L39, and I believe they are a mandatory relocate. 39 is a tiller because of the narrow streets in Woodlawn. The closest tiller is L34 in Manhattan or maybe a unit in Queens? L59 is an easy relocate to L39, up the Major Deegan and across 233rd Street. But there are wiser men than I who make these decisions.

L 59 initially put in for a tiller, but had to "pull their paper" after a conflict with FH renovations. So L 39 remains "The busiest tiller in the Bronx", a motto that was created when either L 59 or L 27 lost the only other tiller back in the 80's.

Note in addition to the IAFF agreement with the U.F.A. & U.F.O.A. about the age of 1st line fire apparatuses, the Board of Fire Underwriters has standards on how old a fire apparatus in common use can be. If apparatuses are more than 10 years old, in most cases and the Fire Insurance rates in a Fire District, City or Town may be increased, by a group called the I.S.O. = Insurance Safety Organization (It think that's right). You can extend the life of an accredited apparatus by 5 years to a total of 15 years, in Major refurbishment and rehabilitation is done on the apparatus, to meet acceptable standards.
