Increased compartment space also, potentially beneficial for the SSLs.
Oh, yes, compartments for sure, but ladder functionality should be pretty close to rearmounts, except if backing in a tight spot where every foot of reach might matter l guess is one thing l can think, the ffs and officers can give us more examples l imagine.

Yes. L84 had a tower ladder. So did L76 and L82, so all South Shore SI had tower ladders for several years. No rearmount assigned or close-by for structure fires.
