I would like to tell the members here about a member who signed up back in July, 2018, but hadn't posted on this site until recently.
That member is Retired FDNY Captain George Cassidy, aka "GeoC" on here.
Captain Cassidy started out his FDNY career at Ladder 131 in 1973, a busy company during a very busy time of heavy fire activity.
When he was promoted to Lt, he bounced around a little, then he spent one year on the fire boats (good times and good stories as he says) and then another year with Ladder 79 in Staten Island, another good company.
But he felt the desire to get back to Brooklyn.
As a Lt he then spent a few years with Ladder 169 in Brighten Beach until he was promoted to Captain where he loved bouncing around in the 15th Division.
He also spent time at Ladder 112 in Bushwick, where I believe he met our own Good Friend here we know as the very popular "Johnny Gage".
At that point, then Capt Cassidy broke two vertebrae which put him out for a time.
But it wasn't over yet.
Captain Cassidy was recruited by his old Captain of 131 to take Ladder 156, aka "The Highway Truck".
Captain Cassidy talked about those Busy Fourth of July's and working as an Acting Battalion Chief in Battalion 71.
Having a busy night driving around and seeing some of the Great Work done by many companies.
Captain Cassidy, aka "GeoC" finished his career at the Highway Truck - Ladder 156, on October 19, 2001. As he puts it; "Because my back and Dr Kelly said they were tired of me".
Well "GeoC", I mean Cap; Welcome to our organization and I'm sure now that your story has been told, you may just get a few Big Hugs from Brothers on this site who worked with you over those 28 years.
We all wish you a very Happy and Healthy, well deserved retirement.
Also as a point of interest for our members, I have been told there were THREE George Cassidy's on the FDNY.
Besides Capt Cassidy, aka "GeoC", there is another Retired FDNY member named George Cassidy who worked Ladder 108. Also his son, George Cassidy, was on the job in Ladder 155, who is also now retired.
