News of Members

To the members who took the time to wish me well on Thursday as I head for another trip around the sun I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

On Thursday I headed to Kinsale County Cork to attend the September 11th ceremony in the FDNY garden of remembrance there.

It was attended by members of the Irish Fire Service and FDNY past and present , US Ambassador to Ireland Edward Walsh, relatives of those lost on 9/11 and locals.

Retired FDNY member Danny Manning led the service

For anyone visiting Ireland the garden is a must see and please reach out to me if you or anyone you know head this way

Today, September 23, 2025 is a very special day for one of our members of this website.

It began on Tuesday May 27th, the day after Memorial Day, 2025 - eighteen (18) weeks ago

I would like to pass on to our membership that "Lebby" is now a member of the New York City's BRAVEST.
Yes, that of course the FDNY.
Today is his last day of training at the ROCK.

His training consisted of classroom instruction, as well as hands training in fire extinguishment, ladder operations, rescue of civilians from fire, as well as emergencies such as confined space rescue, a full-size subway simulator, a full-size ship, as well as a full-size aircraft which was donated to the FDNY by Jet Blue Airlines for training purposes.

Congratulations to FDNY Probationary Firefighter "LEBBY" and all of the other FDNY Probationary Firefighters Class of 2025.

We wish ALL of the members of this FDNY Training Class of 2025 an enjoyable and SAFE career as they carry on the tradition of the busiest fire department in the entire country.

THANK YOU "raybrag" for posting that GREAT PHOTO of the FDNY CLASS of 2025.

ALL THE BEST GUYS.

P.S. - Who's the guy at the very top with no helmet or gear on?
Looks like a Fake Willy D to me.

You NEVER had a tan like that, Willy. BTW, congratulations on losing all that weight. 295 to 185: BRAVO!

Yes, that is TRUE Ray.
I lost 110 pounds.

I peeked out maybe around the year 2000 at 295lbs

My goal was to lose 2lbs. a month by cutting back on all the extra goodies, although once a week I allowed myself some treats like ice cream, cake, pie, etc.

By September 2014 I was down to 255 lbs and I wrote down my weight every month, hoping to lose 2 lbs.
Summertime I lost more - Winter I gained more.

January 2015 - 257lbs
November 2016 - 243lbs (taken at a doctor's office)
January 2017 - 246 lbs.
January 2018 - 235 lbs.
January 2019 - 229 lbs.
July 2020 - 214 lbs. (taken at doctor's office)
January 2021 - 220 lbs.
January 2022 - 212 lbs.
January 2023 - 200 lbs.
January 2024 - 195 lbs.
January 2025 - 182 lbs.

Besides keeping track on my yearly weight, I also weigh myself routinely every morning after breakfast
Today - September 23, 2025 - 183 lbs.
But at 5'10" I really don't want to go down much more than that.

It's taken many years and most years I DID NOT lose the 12 lbs I wanted to.

I also go on an exercise bike at home every other day
I hate it but I sometimes put on some of that Doo Wop Music I like, or tune in the FDNY on the app. (that pumps me up when I hear it)
I do about 7 or 8 miles

I post this because maybe there is somebody on here who might benefit from reading this
"If I can do it - So, can you".

P.S. - Another benefit too.
For you fellas out there, I think the ladies might give you more notice too when you're out there.

Best of health and stick with it.
