Awesome tribute. A hearty thanks to FDNY, especially for their Marine Unit, but just as importantly on the highway. They had us covered to the city line.

SBA LETTER OCT 2019.....Dear Fellow Sergeant,
In yet another example of the lawlessness, anarchy, and total disregard for the police that has gripped our city, an NYPD officer is in a medically induced coma after being hit in the head with a metal chair by a mentally ill man in the 73 Precinct. The man had interfered with officers attempting to arrest a panhandler for urinating on the floor of a nail salon. He was mortally wounded in the wild melee.

Fifteen years ago, in 2004, that same man had slashed a police officer from his left ear to his neck.

Less than a week prior to this latest near tragedy, the man had an appointment with a mobile crisis team from the city's Department of Health, who, in just a few minutes, had determined that he was not a threat to himself or others.

That determination is another glaring example of the failure of Mayor de Blasio's tragically flawed Thrive NYC program, which has spent nearly $1 billion in public funds to "combat" the scourges of homelessness and mental health.

Perhaps it is Mayor de Blasio who should be impeached - or arrested for criminal impersonation of a public official.

We are living in extremely dangerous times, and under the lack of leadership of Mayor de Blasio and Police Commissioner O'Neill, tragedy is looming large. There is absolutely no respect for law and order, not just in the dangerous precincts of our city, but, more importantly, at City Hall.

Mayor de Blasio has led us into very dangerous waters. Over the past few weeks there have been several shootings with multiple victims, which is a portend of worse things to come. His total disregard for the safety of police officers, as well as the public he purportedly serves, has reached epidemic proportions.

Please pray for the injured officer, and continue to use extreme vigilance in all that you do each and every day. We are living and working under the most trying of conditions - and, sadly, we are on our own. The SBA is here to support you, and, unlike the Mayor and Police Commissioner, we will never abandon you.

Of course "I'm on the outside looking in" as I am NOT a resident of NYC. But something NEEDS to be done. The police officers and citizens of NYC can NOT be exposed to individuals like this putting police officers and innocent people at risk.

Unfortunately, it's not just NYC. I had worked part time as a security guard for a few years at a complex in Connecticut where individuals with a criminal history, mental illness, drug addiction, etc did their time instead of going to jail. In some cases they would be required to wear ankle bracelets which would alert the staff that they were beyond the campus boundary. I remember one such individual had cut up his own mother.

Then after a month or two, if they didn't cause any trouble, the ankle bracelet was removed and they were allowed to go off campus, walking the streets, riding a bus, going into stores, even buying alcohol or whatever else they wanted. The only rule was that they had to return by 10 pm. Of course not all of them did.

I remember talking (as a concerned citizen) to some of the staff there, "why would such individuals be allowed to roam the streets". The answer was always: "We can NOT violate THEIR Rights".

As a result, "we are all in danger". But caught up in the middle of it all is our Police Officers. As quoted above, we are seeing the results of such action.

We have no idea who we are dealing with out there today. Our Police Officers are doing the BEST JOB THEY CAN FOR US. But unfortunately, the cards are greatly stacked AGAINST them.

Yes indeed the deck is stacked. Is it my imagination that the press, in this case the Daily News, never, ever print pro for the PD. In this article quotes of "they murdered him" and "..couldn't they find another way" are printed right away. Again I suppose the P.O. who shot him should have verbally admonished the perp verbally and asked him not to hit Officers with chairs? I'm sick of it as I am sure are thousands of other people. It seems the Police Officers of today are nothing more than professional zoo keepers.
