Well said! Great job by the riot police and very saddening that 7 officers were injured so far as a result. One of them needed 20 stitches for a laceration from glass thrown at him.

Several NYPD Officers Hurt In Protests

MYFOXNY.COM - Several NYPD officers were injured trying to contain the large mob of Occupy Wall Street protesters. One officer required 20 stitches.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg reports that at least seven officers were injured in various incidents.

Officer Matthew Walters, 24, was gashed in the left hand when someone in the crowd threw a glass object at him at Zuccotti.

The attack happened as protesters were attempting to take down barriers the NYPD had erected to control the park.

The mayor and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly visited Walters at Bellevue Hospital.

Bloomberg said the protests were not as large as organizers had promoted and that the city had seen minimal disruptions.

"Unfortunately some protesters today have deliberately pursued violence. Demonstrators returned to Zuccotti Park this afternoon and took barriers down that had been erected on Tuesday to allow people in but keep tents and tarps out. Police did meet some resistance when they retrieved those barriers and tried to put them back," Bloomberg said.

Another five officers were splashed in the face with an unknown liquid. It's still unclear what the liquid was, but it was believed to be vinegar. Police made an arrest in that incident.

The officers were being treated at a downtown hospital after the liquid attack.

A seventh officer had a hand injury that was not described in detail.

There were other reports that protesters were flicking lighted cigarettes into the faces of police officers. There were also reports that protesters were throwing batteries at the cops. Police say they confiscated about a dozen homemade metal devices that could be used as weapons.

Another officer was reportedly hurt at about 5:30 p.m. at Broadway and Liberty St. An ambulance was called to treat an officer with an ankle injury. No other information was available.

68JK09 suggests that these individuals join the military and get a real education. Nowadays the military is very selective in its choice. And would  you want to be  humping in the mountains of Afghanistan with these mopes? Not me.

I don't think I would want them defending my nation. I honestly don't understand why they can't take out student loans, get an education, and pay them off after they graduate. There are plenty of jobs available if people are willing to work. It seems that these people want socialism, we all have seen how that fails in time. Nobody will have any motive to work and then the country collapses.

My other issue with this: whose in charge, what are they protesting, and what are their goals they want to accomplish via protest. Right now none of those questions can be clearly answered by the protesters themselves.

NEW YORK ? New York City police are investigating what they say is an online threat made against police officers by an apparent Occupy protester following a clash at Zuccotti Park

Police spokesman Paul Browne confirmed Sunday that the department was seeking a subpoena to identify the person.

The New York Post and Daily News report a message by an apparent Occupy protester saying they won't make a difference if they don't kill a cop or two was tweeted at about 11:40 p.m. Saturday.

Hundreds of protesters had returned to Zuccotti Park near Wall Street on Saturday 3/17/12  to mark the six months that have passed since the movement began.

Authorities say 73 people were detained. It was unclear how many were still in custody Sunday afternoon.

Just for grins and giggles I'd like to see the police broadcast over PA speakers Deg?ello and see the protesters reaction.  But I fear they wouldn't understand and the humor would be lost.

FYI:  Deg?ello or cut throat was what the Mexican army played before the final assault on the Alamo.
