In the early 1900's, the universal and rapid conversion of horse drawn, steam fire apparatus to motor driven apparatus was accomplished quickly due to the reduced cost of fueling and maintaining motorized equipment over the cost of feeding and caring for horses. Not only were motor engines cheaper to operate but they had longer service lives over horses. A favorable return on investment made for public policy acceptance. What economic benefit is motivating municipalities to offer field testing and accepting risk for new concepts?
Given Pierce’s parent Oshkosh in located in WI, I wonder if that is why Madison WI was willing to get into early adoption Was the dept supporting a large local employer and/or did Oshkosh help underwrite some of the infrastructure cost for a local dept.

Smart of Seagrave to sit back and watch. It’s not like the EV fire trucks are of any significance yet. So sit back observe the problems and meanwhile let technology catch up (more efficient and safer batteries). I’m sure they are working on a design and prototype, but smart to not ramp up production yet.
