Not a real surprise. Turner is a long time foe of the firefighter. When I lived down in the Houston area years ago and before Turner was mayor, he was a prime advocate of reduced manning on Houston FD rigs. Shortly after Turner had his way, HFD suffered the loss of Jr. Capt. Jay Jahke (Rest in Peace), whose passing was attributed, in part, to insufficient manpower at the scene of the fire. The layoffs, if they happen, will be another example of Turner showing his dislike of firefighters.
