On progress reports or transmission of higher alarm the Incident Commanders name or who is giving the report must be said over the air.

For example…

Division 3 to Manhattan ; by orders of Deputy Chief “Name” special call 2 trucks

Battalion 18 to the Bronx ; by orders of Acting Battalion Chief “Name” transmit the 2nd Alarm

Division 14 to Queens ; we are under control by orders of Acting Deputy Chief “Name”

Does anybody know what the logic behind this is? Not looking for guesses - I'm looking to know if anybody knows the actual reason for the change. The change seems fine but I am curious what the difference is if someone says Squad 99 to Manhattan transmit a second alarm versus Squad 99 to Manhattan, by orders of SkylerFire, transmit a second alarm. I assume if they're changing this they have good reason to do so I just can't figure out what it would be.

Staff wants to know who is making the calls. And progress reports

Ok but staff clearly would have access to a daily riding list of which chiefs are in which seats, no? Or is it about saving them the step of looking that up?
No idea. Thats what operations wants. I believe it’s more about who is calling the shots.

Many years ago well into the '60s when the Dept radio was used to transmi 9-2s many Old Officers still continued to add their name when transmitting a 9-2 over the Radio......"Box xxx 10-92 by oders of LT xxxxx ENG*xxx. ......anyone listening to the Dept Radio often got to know the names of many Busy Company Officers without ever meeting them.......also in Progress Reports back then the BN*FF would end the Report with " The chief is XXXX " ....we always used to joke that it would be funny if a chief had a name like "shitting" or something like that....."the Chief is shitting" .
