Saffing-E65

Engine 65 is one of the 60 (5man) Engines.  For our guests remember 5man doesn't count the boss, so there is 6 people on the rig. 65 is also one of the 11 Engines that keeps it's 5th man when the Medical leave gets too high.

City is saying they are removing the 5th man from all Engines around Feb of next year.  Squads and Haztec Engines wouldn't be affected.

I had rather have older equipment and adequate manpower. Witnessed a Nashville TN Ladder responding on Sunday 10/24 out of a downtown station with 3 personnel total. The rig was a 100' tiller! Not enough people to do the job!

Several years ago, the FDNY did a study on how quickly a line could be stretched into a fire. I think the Retired Deputy Chief Dunn was involved. I also think that WNYF had an article on it. I remember reading that Three Firefighters were able to stretch and put a line into operation "TWICE as FAST" as Two Firefighters. And by comparision, the numbers showed similiar results. Bottom line. That extra man, made a Huge difference when it counted.

reducing manpower and staffing, saves f@~#k all and achieves even less!!! Stop people wearing suits managing the operations of a uniformed organisation...they havnt a f@#king clue!!!!

Now that annoys me!!!!!!!

So does this mean that an intial attack will not begin until the 2nd engine arrives to help with the stretch?

Inital attack will still start as soon as they have the line in place, Probably will take a little longer, but as soon as the line is in place they will go in. In many areas such as ones with lots of PD's you usually only need 1 engine to a line even if it is a 4 man engine.

How can they do that and still respect the 2 in 2 out rule?  The pump operator can't leave the truck safely.

There's going by the books and then there's real life. Majority of the time your not gonna see the 2 in 2 out, and you do have 2 in 2 out since you have 3
Firefighters and officer on the line
