Mack, I have to disagree with you on the E49 fire house. 49's quarters was a three story red brick single house which sat just to the south of the Welfare Island bridge ramp. It was used for a while for training purposes such as "pulling ceilings", etc. by the Probie's at the training center which was just north of the bridge. The picture posted was that of the Mask Service Unit's quarters and repair shop which was right by the 59th Street, Queensboro, Edward I. Koch Bridge or what ever else they call it now. (all the same bridge) In fact, the firehouse was just opposite the entrance to the bridge elevator which was used by all vehicles to get to the Island prior to the bridge being built at 36th Avenue & Vernon Blvd. in Queens.
