WABC ?
Menards wise crack about rape and that was his demise
Jim

No, Jim . . . WNBD (Channel 4) . . . later WRCA, then (and now) WNBC. He was with Channel 4 from 1949 to 1966, then moved to WABC, where he stayed until he was fired in 1976.  On November 24, 1976, on the 6 p.m. broadcast, Antoine's weather report immediately followed a story about the attempted rape of an eight-year-old girl. Antoine thereupon quipped: "With rape so predominant in the news lately, it is well to remember the words of Confucius: 'If rape is inevitable, lie back and enjoy it'."

Legend is that Tex said something like:  "Rape is impossible, Woman with skirt UP can run faster than man with pants DOWN".  Roger Grimsby was also banished for some sort of remark - can't quite recall what it was.

So was Bobby Knight, the basketball coach.

Okay Ray, that's Al Lewis as Gunther Toody on the show "Car 54 Where Are You" on the left and sitting next to him is his partner Francis Muldoon played by Fred Gwynne and filmed in the Bronx. Also Fred Gwynne played the lovable Herman Munster on the show "The Munsters".
Another little side note Ray. On our recent get together, Willy D and Joe M (Mack) rode together earning them the nicknames "Toody and Muldoon".

Close, Frank . . . but no cigar.  Gunther Toody was played by Willy D Joe E. Ross.

Al Lewis aka Grandpa, lived in an apartment house on Main Street on Roosevelt Island, aka Welfare Island & Blackwell Island. Anyway, in the nice weather each evening he would sit outside the building in his chair and yell "How are you doing boys" and wave to each passing ambulance, fire apparatus and police vehicle. He was a nice gent.

You got me Ray. I forgot all about Joe E. Ross. I was thinking of the "Munsters". Yes Joe E. Ross is more like Willy D than Al Lewis is.
