Hello Troops, driving around my town last week after our snow fall I was noticing many fire hydrants buried in snow. Although most homeowners clear the plug, there are just as many covered over, especially along roads with commercial structures or without any homes. My tip from FDNY days for Engine Chauffeurs: Have a good METAL shovel to clear packed and hardened snow nearby and carry a 5 gallon pail of sand to spread when the area around your pump panel freezes. Be prepared, stay safe!
