Baltimore City Paint Scheme

STOP! Don't do it!

I saw it in 1974. After the quint fiasco, the circus had come to Baltimore and dropped off Omaha Orange paint. The city got a great deal on it as I recall- left over, rejected and sent back, stolen. Who knows?

Brand recognition is important to organizations. They teach the art and science in business schools.

Back when it was still the Monument City, the BCFD brand was nonpareil. Consider; creamy white rigs with Marlboro red fenders, wheels and seats, some gold leafing ,classic lettering, and a hand painted company number emblem on the side or door.
Then we have the iconic Baltimore Basket, Morse deck pipes, Beaux Arts firehouses, loud mufflers, and the neatest alert tone on the radio and voice alarm systems.

The good citizens of Baltimore once had their firefighters come to work in a bespoke suit. Now, once again, those firefighters are going to show up in the clown outfit.

The members are very excited for the "new" scheme

The BCFD Glory Days ended in the mid 1970's. It's been a slow descent in the decades since.

Omaha Orange is characterized as a fluorescent covering and has been noted that exposure increases the risk of eye disease.

The "new" exciting rig paint scheme serves as the perfect metaphor for Baltimore- along with traffic safety cones and plastic Jersey barriers.
