These are certainly much larger than squad 2nd pieces, if they are going to the squads they are going to turn those clouds in the full-blown rescue companies! Of course that's not going to happen!
Your statement about driving away volunteers wants to start putting paid firefighters on it's very true. The department I used to be in outside of Rochester New York was all volunteer when I was in and we had 4 stations with about 300+ volunteers. Each station had 2 engines and a rescue or an...
That article really doesn't say anything about how to correct the problem and really doesn't even say what the cause of the problem is other than to any small governments. I was hoping it would have some creative solutions but all it really did was say that maybe the Lieut. Gov. can solve the...
I can maybe see the long lead time based on the problems they had last rescues plus the extended delivery times all the apparatus companies are quoting. I do not understand the 9 trucks, I can understand 6 or maybe even 7 but 9? Unless they are planning on greatly expanding the rescue...
I'm always amazed when they can supply that much water using tankers and drop tanks! Multiple ladder pipes running off of tankers certainly takes a lot of coordination and training!
This is happening all across America in almost every industry. I had to sit through several classes like this and if your normal American you get nothing out of it except a few hours being bored to death and if you're lucky a couple cups of coffee!
Here's another interesting one, 1954 gold administrative metal made by Tiffany, it's $6000!
Tiffany & Co Solid 14k Gold FDNY Fire Department Administration Medal 1954
I think you would probably be okay if they would sign a refusal of transport but in the majority of cases they probably wouldn't sign it because they want a free ride! If it isn't signed than you would definitely be opening yourself up for lawsuits if a serious medical event happened after you...
I'm not sure what to say about them, one thing I can say is that they are "certainly different"! They look more like a vehicle that should be driven by a Forest Ranger instead of NYPD.
High-rise ladders may sound like a good idea but they present so many safety concerns that very few departments have or are considering them. The only system that seems reasonable is the Bronto buckets that go up to 230' ( Bronto Sky Lift ) but even then they have to arrive at the fire early on...
It's all politics, the mayor picks the people he likes for positions like this and worry about how much they know about the fire service or how much help they can be to it!
I could see making 6 rescues identical so the front line spirit is identical to what the units are used to running with but at least presently the Hazmat and the TSUs quite a bit different in layout etc.
I agree the specs certainly sound like rescues I'm wondering where the quantity 9 comes from? They certainly are not going for more rescues to the system. I can understand getting one additional one for a spare but certainly not 4 spares.
I forget exactly what department said what about when I was in the fire service outside of Rochester New York we had to carry 3 sets of adapters so we could connect hose lines when responding mutual aid! It was a real cluster you know what! Never did understand why some departments were so...
