FDNY Officer Wins Suit To Get Promotion

Glad to hear the lawsuit has a positive outcome! I sincerely hope he still stands by his original letter. All hiring and promotions should be based on "qualifications" and not anything else. Setting up special criteria to "overcome" past problems does nothing but promote future problems and mean...

Oklahoma fire department is working to bring 'The Spirit of Oklahoma' rescue truck home from New York City

I sincerely hope that the "anonymous donor" was somehow associated with FDNY. Hopefully someone realize how wrong they were and scrapping the rig instead of donating it back to Oklahoma!

This type of technology and tires has been around for a long time. Michelin started using it in OTR tires over 25 years ago.

    SUPER PUMPER 1

Thanks for the information, it will be interesting to see when and where it goes in service. Just wondering but since this unit is called "Super Pumper 1", I wonder if there will be others?

    Rockton,IL Chemical Plant Explosion & Fire 6/14/2021

Here's a video from Tuesday afternoon of the ongoing firefighting efforts. Looks like they have one master stream in service just cooling things down. Must have some major pump capacity looking at the distance that stream is flowing!

Thanks, I'm guessing they'll be doing that for the next several days.

Going toward or away from the scene? I thought they were shutting down all operations to prevent runoff.

    Rockton,IL Chemical Plant Explosion & Fire 6/14/2021

Here's another video from one of the local news station showing some of the massive fireballs going into the air early on in the incident https://www.mystateline.com/news/local-news/crews-battling-fire-at-rockton-manufacturing-plant/ Looks like they aren't doing any good with the water and...

QNS BOX 0035 ....LGA AIRPORT FIRE.

I have a feeling that the PA like NYPD in many cases would rather not have any outside agency come onto their turf! It seems in many cases the various agencies in NYC would rather not have assistance instead of working together. Everyone needs to learn to work together better in New York city...

FDNY radios with Coast Guard Channels

I'm not sure about the land units, I'm guessing they don't, but I'm sure at the very least the Boats and the Marine BC have the CC frequencies in their radios. I've never heard anything about there being any conflict between the 2 agencies.

Oklahoma fire department is working to bring 'The Spirit of Oklahoma' rescue truck home from New York City

I'm sure somehow that when you take "big city politics" into consideration there was no way they could do that legally. Even though it was the right thing to do as far as the rank-and-file went through the politicians didn't even want to hear that option.

LAFD To Purchase First Electric Fire Engine In North America

It has to be one of the worst applications possible for an electric vehicle! You respond to a fire where you are first in, so the rig is parked in front of the building. It ends up being a multiple alarm long-duration call and guess what, the batteries die! Now you've got the front of the fire...

    LAFD ladders

That's exactly why I didn't ever bring up the union issue in my original post. On top of that I don't really think that have anything to do with the reason they use wood ladders, they just like them plain and simple. It is strange however that if they are so good why many other departments don't...

    LAFD ladders

If the ladder is heavier the risk of getting hurt while erecting it is higher no matter how many people you have. We all know that no matter what the SOPs say they're going to be times when fewer members are going to have to erect a ladder during an emergency. Especially at these times the risk...

    LAFD ladders

Once again, the unions are allowed to dictate policies in this case it actually probably makes it less safe for the firefighters.

Cal Fire Riverside County Unveiled A New Sikorsky S-70i Firehawk Firefighting Helicopter

I'm surprised in many ways that FDNY doesn't at least have one of these rather than depending on NYPD chopper with a Bambi bucket!

    LAFD ladders

So basically it boils down to it being a tradition? Yes they are not electrically conductive but neither are fiberglass ladders which are a lot lighter weight. There are many areas that have a significant number of electrical wires overhead yet they don't use wooden ladders either so it can't be...

    LAFD ladders

Does anyone know the reasoning for use of wooden ladders by LAFD as well as several other California Departments? It seems like were heavier and require a lot more maintenance I don't see any big advantage for them. If there was he would think that other departments would also be using them. My...
