The last I heard it was still fully equipped and would still be manned for special events or major emergencies. The truck itself has also been used as a spare on occasion it was the other rescues goes out of service.
A unit very similar still exists today in Rochester New York. It's called the Protectives. The fire department provides the truck and a chauffeur but everyone else is volunteer. They run out of the central station and their main duty is protection of property. However with today's manpower...
The 45 day notification for the closure of 3 engine companies in 1 truck company was announced today.
Here's the story:

NEW YORK -- The FDNY gave four fire companies and the communities they serve 45 days notice...
I hadn't seen a picture of that house before, it sure is beautiful. If you look at this picture: Engine 39 firehouse you could see air conditioners in 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor windows so probably those areas are used for something anyway
Just wondering but why doesn't FDNY carry large diameter hose on their engine companies? Especially with the new 2000gpm engines, I'd think it would be very beneficial.
Does anybody have any more information about the two new fire boats? All I've been able to find is the original specs that were sent out for bid and the actual contract document showing who the winning bidder was. I'm sure there's more information out there, I'm just not sure where to look.
