Yes, it was a temporary firehouse because E3's house at 417 W. 17th St. was torn down due to the NYCHA Chelsea Houses. An interesting point of info: L12 was located across the street at 243 W. 20th St. Back then, I visited those firehouses but didn't got to see them "turn-out" inside the same...
Then it was E54's house from 1884 to 1974. The bottom photo shows E2's next firehouse at 530 W. 43rd St where they were from 1870 to when they were disbanded in 1972. Rescue 1 was the next occupant until it was destroyed by fire and rebuilt.
This was the original home of L18, then Combination Engine 50, E50 & L32, E50 & L19, Div. 6 moved in there next and during the "War Years" E50 ran out of there as a double co. along with L19 & Div. 6.
If you look at the far lower right corner of the top photo you can see the Division Chief's door at the rear (exp. 3/4) corner of the firehouse. It's at the basement level. ;)
Contrary to what the Daily News wrote; This was NOT E36's "long time" house. Rather, it was Ladder 14's house! >:( E36's old home was at 1849 Park Ave. (btwn 126 & 127) and was only at 120 E. 125th St. for a few years after L14 moved to their present location. >:(
Yes, and you can see the ALF pumper backed in front of the Law offices on the Bronx Ch-12 News video http://www.news12.com/articleDetail.jsp?articleId=301429&position=1&news_type=news
