    73 Years Ago Today

"Pearl Harbor Day" we remember the attack on Pearl Harbor, which was a surprise military strike conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy against the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on the morning of December 7, 1941. 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed, 2,402 personnel were killed...

I'm almost sure it was because E244 was in Coney Island where the locals might decide to toss "things" at fire apparatus so a pumper with a canopy cab would be better than an open cab and Flatbush did not have any "civil unrest" during that time.

Engine 42's Monroe Ave. firehouse was originally built to house Engine 42 & Ladder 50. In fact, the LADDER 50 sign was over the door in the 1960's & 70's.

      It's a 1939 Ward LaFrance 1000gpm w/no booster tank (Shop #38869) that served E306 until 1958 when a new 1958 Mack C 750gpm pumper was assigned to them.

Yes, from 1960 to 1973 and it was an "ALL MACK" firehouse during that time. ;)

Engine 244 didn't have a 1958-59 Mack C pumper back in 1960. In 1960 they were running with a 1951 Ward LaFrance #2592 that was theirs until around 1965 when they swapped rigs with E248 and got 248's 1959 Mack C 1000gpm pumper. Unfortunately, E244 was disbanded. :(

Does anybody know if there was a dividing wall at E288 firehouse for an engine & truck? The reason I ask is that the firehouse has 2 separate doors and is the same design as E287/L136 and E153/TL77.
