    E58/L26

The FDNY had plans to organize additional companies in the vicinity of Allerton Avenue and Boston Road and another near Montifiore Hospital in the 1930's. These would have closed the gaps between E's 90 and 62 and 79 and 62, respectively, as these areas became more populated. Due to The Great...

    E58/L26

The Williamsbridge and Wakefield sections of the Bronx are doing a lot of the work nowadays. But don't forget that there are far fewer companies up there. Compare the distances between E's 62,63,38,97 and 66 and that between E's42,46,88,48 and 75 or other similar clusters to the south of the...

Engine 30, the curent home to the Fire Museum, unless you count the Big House in Jamaica, Queens with 3 separate engine companies. My uncle was born next door to E30 and went on to be a Battalion Chief.

    Engine 39 & Ladder 16

Engine 39 received the first gasoline propelled and powered pumper in the FDNY, a 1911 Waterous. It didn't work and they went back to steamers, the last one with a motorized tractor delivered in 1917. In 1925 they received a new American LaFrance 700 Gallon Per Minute, then another American...

    FDNY's "Combo Companies"

Great story, mack. Thanks. Although born and raised in NYC I have probably been to SI less than 10 times in my life, but it is a really nice place. Have to pinch oneself to realize you are still in New York City. One time about ten years ago I was driving north from Jersey and took whatever...

    Key Companies

1947 was a vintage year for FDNY apparatus. Because of WWII, only a few (like 4) Mack pumpers or ladders had been delivered between 1942 and 1945. Some units (see Bronx Engine 62) were still running 1920's era American LaFrance 700 series rigs or 1929 Mack Bulldogs (E97). The fleet needed to be...

    37 Truck

150, it works like this: Any box that had TL46 and L37 assigned in that order prior to 37's relocation is still that way. TL46 rolls first. For those that were L37 and TL 46, 37 rolls first. Most of those boxes are to the north and/or west of the reservoir. 37 has lost none of those. Once you...

    Engine 39 & Ladder 16

The proby school and other training schools were located at 39/16 all the way back to the early 20th Century, perhaps beyond. The building was built for this purpose but the training requirements outgrew this site after WWII. Training facilties were later re-consolidated on Welfare (now...
