    ABC Question

Welcome to the FDNY; you're comparing apples to oranges, a Captain is company level experience whereas BC is middle management very different perspectives. You don't just get thrown into the next rank without some sort of orientation, newly promoted FDNY Battalion Chiefs undergo an extensive...

    TACTICAL USE OF FIRE HYDRANTS.

FDNY PUMPERS generally pump to only 2 handlines for that reason. When supplying a large calibre stream or providing water to a tower ladder they should be the only source alleviating the negative hydrant pressure. A third line should only be used only in Emergency Conditions AND with confirmed...

    TACTICAL USE OF FIRE HYDRANTS.

The engine apparatus should be positioned as close to the fire building as possible to reduce the time, effort and number of lengths needed for the stretch. However, consideration must be given to ladder company response and the engine apparatus should be positioned so that it will not interfere...

    TACTICAL USE OF FIRE HYDRANTS.

Hi Boss, if you think about it, why should we even be worried about a parked car on the hydrant?...The 35' yellow supply line was added to engines in the late 80's to resolve this issue. In addition, 3 ½” hose – Standard 50-foot lengths of 3 ½” hose can be used to hook up to a hydrant through...

    TO REMEMBER; BLACK SUNDAY.

"Black Sunday" (January 23, 2005) was one of the deadliest days in FDNY History, resulting in four firefighter deaths and severe injuries to others across two separate, 2-alarm fires in the Bronx and Brooklyn. Six firefighters were forced to jump from a fourth-story window in the Bronx after...

    Firehouses - Bronx: E50 L19

If you think about it, it was quite common...3 piece combination companies way back when, then TCU's, second sections and Squads, etc that filled up typical firehouses to capacity. And since almost all firehouses were built in mid-block, that made it even more congested.

    Firehouses - Bronx: E50 L19

Actually this firehouse was original quarters of Ladder 18 for a few months. L 18 was disbanded, E 50 a combination company took over... and the rest is history...Years later L 18 was re-organized in Manhattan.

My Favorite FDNY Rig of All Time.

Of course my fave is the 68 ALF tiller, but the runner up is a tie. You got to love all the types of Mack produced from the L series, C series, and CF, all genuinely classic beauties...but I get stuck on the fugly Pagoda Ward LaFrance Firebrand for some reason.
