    BROOKLYN DEPARTMENT STORE FIRE

    The fire was a 3rd alarm for  Brooklyn box 590. I believe the fire was in Field's dept store and was on  the 22nd of December 1976. 12 people died in the fire. The photo was on the cover of the 4th issue 1976 WNYF and the story appears in the 3rd issue 1977.

    I noticed the other day that Manhattan was using 7000 series box numbers for transit responses. When did this go into effect?
