Ladder test

Does anyone know what the shops number is 137 Truck's current rig? As in, is it SL01001?

Second, anyone know what the story is with the ladders in the rear? Do they need to be released or something? They look as though they stow and then drop down to climb up to the turn table. Sounds like a lousy plan...

I believe the current 137 is SL99something.
I could just see a rig hitting a bump, those things coming loose and dragging along the street, or bottoming out and getting sent into the turntable.

Yeah, that or going the way of the flip down bottom step. When was the last time you saw that actually flipped down!?

Okay, so I take it L137 is overdue for replacement if they have a '99.

I'm still sold on the old Seagrave Rearmounts of the early 70s. Compact, easy to use, no extra bells and whistles. And of course no air conditioning. We bought Brooklyns Ladder 109 after it had fought a few thousand fires in the Boro of Fire during those pretty busy years. After about forty years of smoke, heat, and fires, it asked to be relieved of its pain and we recently put it to rest.

I'm sure I won't be around to see it, but I wonder if these new rigs will do as well.

There was a list in FAJ as to who was getting a new rear mount. I remember 137, 24, 32, 123, 81, and 156, maybe?? I don't remember the flip down step. Only rigs I ever saw with that were the Pierce Quantums.

I'm with you! Keep it simple is the way to go.....well, with everything but the A/C part. Having A/C on a hot summer day, whether doing B.I. or just running around, is fantastic......only problem is, the A/C tends not to work too often. We've gone summers with spare rigs old enough not to have A/C and it sucks.

The current replacement schedule for the assignment of the twenty new Ferrara 100 foot rearmount aerials currently on order, will be as follows: Ladder Companies 137, 156, 81, 123, 24, 169, 32, 154, 42 (preceeding all currently assigned 1999 Seagrave 100 foot reamounts), followed by Ladder Companies 4, 165, 49, 173, 38, 29, 8, 113, 132, 11, 3 (all currently assigned 2001 Seagrave 100 foot rearmounts).

More fancy stuff= more breakdowns, more repairs, more money wasted, more items to fail. Some folks are more interested how the truck looks in an exhibition hall rather than the functionality.

Courtesy FAJ:137, 156, 81, 123, 24, 169, 32, 154, 42, 4, 165, 49, 173, 38, 29, 8, 113, 132, 11, and 3. This is a 3 year order of 6, 4, and 10. Units will be assigned in order of delivery. Also Boston;s E-One Tower unit had a similar rear step configurement.

Is that the type of ladder that was written in the spec or does the spec just say ladder and it is up to the manufacturer to come up with the ladder design.

I've seen this list around at work, seems to be accurate. Is it really supposed to be a 3 year order? Sounds like a lot of time to build 20 units, besides, if you believe the Ferrara web site, they have 7 in production already.
