12/1/13 Bronx 2nd Alarm 10-60 Train Derailment Box 4972

Members did outstanding, but I am sure this is not on the agenda at the Academy! What did Gunny say in Heartbreak Ridge say: Adapt, overcome, improvise, the members did this and more.

NTSB says the train was going 82mph when it left the rails.  That's 12mph over the limit on the straightaway  leading into the curve, and 52mph over the limit on the curve.  NTSB also said the engine's throttle wasn't eased off until 6 seconds before it left the track, and the brakes weren't applied until 5 seconds beforee it left the track.  Methinks the engineer is going to have a lot of explainng to do.  ::) ::) ::)

What a surprise ... LOL Glad they didn't injure any of the EMS folks.

Word is that primary damage was from a  ESU unit that tore off the side mirror.

Yet another reason NYPD should leave rescue situations like this to FDNY!  All they do is get in the way and cause problems.

Doesn't CIMS denote that FDNY is in charge of train derailments...what the hell gives with PD bogarting everything?

Regarding the audio feed.

They don't make dispatchers the way they used to.....

AMEN To That, Brother ! You Could tell from listening that the Bronx FDNY Dispatcher
was New & clearly Overwhelmed.
As for the E.M.S. City-Wide... Uh, Ah ...well...Never Mind... .  ???

Does anyone know where the other Mack Granite is housed? I believe it was initially at Ladder 79 but not sure. Also I remember 2 pods being kept in each borough.  I remember it being PODS 1 & 6 in Manhattan, PODS 2 & 7 in Brooklyn, PODS 3 & 8 in Bronx, PODS 4 & 9 in Queens, PODS 5 & 10 in Staten Island. But according to pic 187, POD 8 is now on Randalls Island.  I'm Looking to update my unit location chart. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
