They are keeping the Facade of the church, it seems pretty sturdy. Everything else is being painstakingly torn down as to not damage the remaining facade. Spent 5 hours down there today.

It's been done before after a church fire.

I believe they also saved the bell from the church at Mount Loretto and I think its displayed there. Hopefully they can save the NY Liberty Bell.

The Sixth Alarm Fire in Manhattan on December 5th, 2020, which started in a 5 brick vacant building and extended to a church would have been responded to by 12 Engine Companies that had been disbanded over the years.

Box 0437 - 2nd Ave and East 7th St

1st Alarm - Eng 25 (disbanded), 33, 5, 72 (disbanded in Manhattan - now in the Bronx)
2nd Alarm - Engine 28, 20 (disbanded), 55, 17 (disbanded), 18
3rd Alarm - Engine 14, 13 (disbanded), 16, 11 (disbanded), 31 (disbanded)
4th Alarm - Engine 9, 24, 12 (disbanded), 15, 30 (disbanded), 7
5th Alarm - Engine 27 (disbanded), 1, 3, 32 (disbanded), 21, 29 (disbanded)

Note - The nearest Engine Company to the fire scene would have been Engine 25 if they had not been disbanded. Engine 25s quarters was lo cated just 2 blocks away on East 5th St off of 2nd Ave.

E 74 was in with L 25 prior to moving to their own house. Ladders 3 and 8 did not have engines as far as I know. L 3 had a water tower and L 8 had a second section ladder company.

Ladder 8's quarters was twice the size with two apparatus doors. Half the house was demolished when Varick St. was widened.

It’s necessary. Marshals can’t enter the building if it’s going to come down on them. Also, most of the interior had already collapsed inwards. Marshals said that the demo crew was aware of certain areas of interest and that they would try to work around them or make it safe for the marshals to enter.

Just curious, I know that E-13 was with L-20 at one time. What engines, if any, were with Ladders 3, 8, and 25?

Ladder 3 shared quarters with Water Tower 2 and Battalion 6. Engine 72 was about 1200 feet away. Ladder 3 was/is surrounded by single engine houses - 5, 14, 18, (25), and 33.
Ladder 8 had a second section. Engine 27 was around the corner less than 700 feet away.
Ladder 25 opened with Engine 74. Their bay is still engraved for them. While Engine 74 has been keeping Engine 56's station open (for nearly 50 years) Ladder 25 has hosted Engine 40 and Engine 23 during their renovations.

In the days of the original 2nd sections, running cards showed original sections for assignments. Second sections took subsequent calls. Fewer relocations (if any) were required because of the 2nd sections.
