They were out on a run. When the job startedThat is what happened at the fire in 80/23s quarters back in 2008. A space heater was malfunctioning and smoldering up on the second or third floor (not enough heat in the firehouse). The members were all down in the kitchen. When they opened the doors to respond that blast of air ignited the entire third floor. The units were responding and had no idea what was going on back at the ranch.
The firehouse was eventually rebuilt and 80/23 wound up with what was basically a whole new firehouse.
The way I was told was that one of the companies was out. The heater was already malfunctioning upstairs but the remaining members were all downstairs in the kitchen so they had no idea.
